Eclipse

The third book picks up where the second one left us. Bella and the Cullen family return to Forks and they all start their second semester. Bella’s very focussed on Edward again. She can’t see Jacob anymore since him and Edward are natural enemies, let aside their mutual dislike. Bella suffers from Jacob’s absence. Meanwhile a series of deaths shocks Seattle and the Cullens soon suspect this to be the work of newborn vampires who got out of control. Bella manages to trick Alice’s vision and Edward’s mind-reading and visits Jacob at La Push. Edward has to admit that she is save at the reservoir. Bella, the Cullens and the wolf pack know that Victoria is still on the hunt for Bella but she has always been able to escape. In addition to that they find out that a strange vampire was at Bella’s house while she stayed with Alice for a weekend. She misses some of her clothes but that doesn’t bother her too much.

Regarding her upcoming finals and all these inconvenient factors Bella plays with the thought of being changed before graduation already. Edward is able to convince her not to make the decision out of fear but out of belief and love. As the numbers of homicides in Seattle increase the Cullens decide to do something against it. That way they want to avoid the Volturi coming too close to their home and checking on Bella.

At the night of graduation she sees all the pieces of the puzzle and is suddenly able to put them together: Victoria created an army of Newborns; she sent a vampire the Cullens don’t know to Bella’s house to steal some of her clothes; with Bella’s scent she wants to lead the Newborns to Bella and the Cullens and attack them. She tells Alice who has a vision of exactly that happening in the future, now that she knows what to look for.

The werewolves offer their help for the fight. Although they assure her that it’s a piece of cake Bella is more and more worried about Jacob’s and Edward’s safety.

Bella asks Edward to stay with her the next day during the combat because she couldn’t bear to lose him again. Jacob stays with them during the night before the fight and when he overhears Bella and Edward the next morning talking about their wedding he threatens Bella to get killed while fighting. She kisses him to convince him to come back but now she’s even more torn between the two of them. Seth Clearwater joins Bella and Edward when the fight begins. Everything seems to go just fine when suddenly Victoria and her companion appear at their camp. She came to avenge James…

  • Nathalia says:

This book reminds me very much of the Anne Rice novels less horror more humanistic and dumbed down. Less esoteric.

it was actually a very interesting book, Ive read all 4 books, and the way steph wrote them were uncomparable to that of anne rice or even with that of stephen king’s. She has a very vivid, evocative, delightful imagination and everything in that imagination was remarkably put into the book, moreso with the film extension. I cant wait to see and read Midnight Sun. Goodluck

Don’t misunderstand, I didn’t say the books weren’t good I merely commented on their references to the progressions of the Anne Rice novels. Though Lestat is the center of the Universe and the vampire world moves virtually around his whole persona so does this life stream of Edward and Bella deconomy. Circle within a circle, life within life movement. You probably haven’t read many of Anne Rice’s writing at the level Ihave. I am not berating you just at a different level and place in vamp world. That’s okay. Life experiences are tend to be different for different people. Peace out. Bree Tanner is getting closer to where I think Stephenie was going with the books.

I am also a mom Twilight fan. I have read all the books and seen all the movies. I am hooked. I watch the movies everyday to the point where my three year old son says “no more Twilight mommy. I want Mickey Mouse”. Way to go Stephanie! My problem is I can’t choose between Edward or Jacob. :) . They both ROCK! My 10 year old daughter is team Jacob and team Alice all the way.
