New Moon carries on the story of Twilight.

After Edward saved Bella from her sadistic hunter they spend the summer together in Forks. But the day Bella fears the most eventually arrives- her 18^th birthday. Her biggest wish is being changed by Edward so she could be with him forever. She cannot stand the thought of getting older and older while Edward stays at his perfect, 17-year-old stage.  He turned that idea down the second he realized what she wanted and wouldn’t change his mind. Alice prepared a birthday party for Bella at the Cullens’ house.

Due to her clumsiness she accidentally cuts her finger and Jasper, who’s still not handling the restrictions very well, flips. Edward throws himself in front of Bella who gets smashed into a table. She cuts her arm deeply from some shears and all the Cullens are exposed to the overwhelming scent of her blood. Carlisle is in control of the situation and vets Bella’s cuts while the rest of them take care of Jasper.

Edward’s not the same anymore after the incident and he and Bella go 2 days of barely speaking a word to each other. On the third day he asks her for a walk and breaks the fact that they are leaving to her. She goes into shock and stays behind in the woods. She awakens in the middle of the night, when she is found by people of the Quileute Reservoir who helped Charlie searching for her.

The months pass and Bella doesn’t recover from the breakup and is barely alive anymore until one day when Charlie decides to draw a line and send her back to Renée. Bella is terrified by the idea and therefore starts to spend a lot of time with Jacob, Billy Black’s son.

Bella experienced that she could hear Edward’s voice as soon as she put herself into danger so they start on rebuilding two old motorcycles Bella found. They soon become best friends and Bella finds out that she depends on Jacob in a very strange way.

But suddenly he stops talking to her and doesn’t answer her calls anymore. She drives to La Push to confront Jacob but he doesn’t want to talk to her and once again she feels like she is being broken up with. It’s more than she can take. The night afterwards though Jacob sneaks to her house and tries to explain the situation. He can only give her hints and says she’ll figure it out herself. That night Bella realizes that Jacob’s turned into a werewolf.

She manages to warp her head around it and soon they’re friends again. One afternoon Bella hangs out a La Push and decides to jump off a cliff because she hadn’t heard Edward’s voice in a while and doing that seems dangerous enough to her. She almost drowns but Jacob saves her.

That afternoon Alice shows up at Bella’s house. She saw her jumping off the cliff, believing she was committing suicide. Bella’s so psyched to see her, Alice stays over night.

The next day Alice has a vision of Edward going to the Volturi asking them to kill him. A series of misunderstandings has led him to believe that Bella is dead.

In order to save Edward and with the great possibility of getting killed themselves, Bella and Alice head off to Italy.
